Sligo Cemetery, Grover, Weld County, Colorado Transcribed by Merle and Allene Niehaus MNiehaus@worldnet.att.net NAMES AND DATES FROM SLIGO CEMETERY Located west of Pawnee Buttes From Briggsdale, CO, take Colorado State Highway 14 approx. 17 miles east. Turn left on RD 390 and go approx. 13 miles to RD 112. Turn east and go about 1 1/2 miles. The cemetery is on the south side of the road and has a sign over the gate saying "Sligo Cemetery." (Note: There may be a better route; and we recommend getting a detailed map from the U.S. Forest Service for the Grasslands.) Sligo cemetery is a lovely, peaceful place with long views of the countryside, which seems to be part of the Pawnee National Grasslands. In early June after a wet spring, there were lovely wildflowers and some yellow iris surviving. Some of the markers are granite, some are concrete. Others are old wood. Sometimes the graves are outlined with wood or stone. Some have only a small metal marker provided by Adamson Mortuary. These metal markers had a special place for date of birth and date of death but not all numbers were recorded and some were worn; but for the main part, they could still be read. To the best of our ability, we recorded the following: (If no dates are given, then no dates were found on the markers.)
